The Local Area:
From the vineyards of St Emilion in
the west to the magnificent crystal caves of Maxange in the
east, the famous Bastides towns of Castillonnes and Miramont
de Guyenne in the south to the capital of the Perigord
region - Perigueux - in the north, the local area is rich
with history, full of beautiful locations and home to some
of the most exquisite foods and wines in the world.

Flight information:
There are now
three competitively priced flight companies flying to the
Dordogne area:
British Airways fly from London
Gatwick to Bordeaux.
Flybe are now operating from
Birmingham, Bristol and Southampton to Bergerac and from
Bristol and Southampton to Bordeaux.
Ryanair fly from London Stansted
to Bergerac. |

Wine:
My favourite section!
It would be unforgivable to describe the
area and neglect to mention the many wonderful wines that are made. We have
already mentioned the world famous wines of St Emilion and if you click on the
cellar picture to the right it will take you to the St
Emilion Office de Tourism website. But there are many other
wine appellations that should be mentioned. These include
the appellations of Ste Foy a La Grande, Duras, Castillion
and Bergerac. The latter that include the famous sweet white
wine of Monbazillac.
Of course, further to the west of St
Emilion is the Bordeaux wine region, which itself has 57
appellations, with over 9,000 wine producing chateaux and
13,000 wine growers. Clicking on the vineyard picture to the

Things to do:
There are so many things that you can do in the area
from visiting the medieval towns of St Emilion and Miramont de Guyenne to
playing golf, tennis or kayaking on the Dordogne.
Further to the east there are several very
interesting crystal caves that can be explored, click on the link to the right
to visit the Maxange Caves website.
One of the most popular attractions to visitors and
the locals, are the wonderful markets in the towns. The market is Ste Foy la
Grande is rated as one of the best in the whole of France.
To the north of the region is the wonderful town of
Perigueux - the capital of the area. Click on the link to the right to visit the
